The Carpet Museum on the Seaside Boulevard is housed in another of Baku's modern architectural wonders – which is very fittingly shaped like a rolled-up rug! But there's much more to this museum than its unusual appearance: inside you will find the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets in the world (over 6,000 of them!).
There's simply no better place to begin your journey into the world of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, which has been central to Azerbaijani culture for millennia. Strolling around the beautifully curated exhibits offers a fascinating insight into the diverse history, techniques, types, patterns and symbols of this complex art form, which has been inscribed on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list. You can also see how it's done through live demos.
