Taking place every September between Baku and Shamakhi, the Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Art and Spirituality is a multi-disciplinary programme of events including workshops, lectures, film screenings, theatre and musical performances featuring local and foreign talent. All of the events are inspired by the life and work of the great 14th-century Sufi poet and thinker of Azerbaijani origin Imadaddin Nasimi, who was famous for his Turkic-language divans – poetry collections infused with innovative views on humanity, the universe, love and God. The festival aims to celebrate and promote his artistic and spiritual legacy, whose overall message is one of multiculturalism and tolerance.
